In the early morning hours of October 5, 2024, tragedy struck in Birmingham, Alabama, ending the life of 26-year-old Johndarius Decareious 'JD' Ward. The young man was inside his vehicle at a Shell gas station on 3rd Avenue West when a hail of gunfire erupted. Ward was fatally wounded in the incident, which also left another individual injured. The shooting took place around 3 a.m., shattering the pre-dawn quiet and leaving a community to grapple with another act of gun violence.
