Michael August Cannon, 18, went missing on December 25, 1966, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Early that Christmas morning, Cannon left his family's Kahala home, leaving behind a note indicating his intention to hike on Tantalus Mountain. He had mentioned to his mother the night before that he wanted to visit the bamboo forest located there. Cannon was expected to return later that day to join his family for dinner, but he never came back. Concerned, his mother reported him missing to the authorities.
