Carlos Vicente Carrillo, a 28-year-old nightclub promoter, disappeared on July 4, 2000, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Carrillo was last seen around 2:00 a.m. inside the Evolution Waikiki nightclub, where he worked as a promoter. His girlfriend reported that shortly after she saw him, a bouncer from the club kidnapped her, driving her to Pearlridge against her will before releasing her a few hours later. The bouncer was arrested for the kidnapping but denied involvement in Carrillo's disappearance.
