In the spring of 2008, concern began to mount for a 75-year-old Hawaii Kai man named Roque Rivera. His disappearance was brought to light when a close friend, with whom he had a standing weekly appointment to go hiking, was unable to reach him. For the previous 12 years, the two had met every Monday to hike various trails across Oahu, and it was highly uncharacteristic for Rivera to be out of touch.
