Robert D. Patterson, a 51-year-old police officer from Birmingham, Alabama, tragically lost his life on October 31, 1982, in a case of mistaken identity. Officer Patterson, who had served on the force for 20 years, was working a plainclothes secondary employment job at a nightclub on Morris Avenue when the incident occurred.
