On a Friday evening in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of 54-year-old Andre Falletta Shedric was tragically cut short. On May 31, 2019, Shedric was found unresponsive inside a vehicle in the 1800 block of Bessemer Road. He had sustained a gunshot wound, and despite the efforts of Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation by Birmingham police suggested that Shedric may have been the victim of a robbery.
It was believed that he had been shot during an altercation at another location and had then driven to Bessemer Road, where he succumbed to his injuries. The male victim's death was classified as a homicide, prompting a thorough investigation by the Birmingham Police Department.
In the days following the shooting, authorities worked to piece together the events that led to Shedric's death. Their investigation led them to identify a suspect, and on June 4, 2019, an arrest was made. Demarco Shauntell Dukes, 22 years old at the time, was taken into custody and subsequently charged with capital murder in connection with the death of Andre Falletta Shedric. The charge of capital murder suggests that the killing occurred during the commission of another felony, in this case, a robbery. Following his arrest, Dukes was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
