In the autumn of 2024, a grim discovery was made in a wooded area in east Birmingham, Alabama. The decomposing body of a man, later identified as 40-year-old Dempsey Chevoit Smith, was found, bringing a tragic end to his story. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office would later confirm that Smith's death was the result of a gunshot wound.
