On the evening of September 24, 2024, Damone Gardner, a 34-year-old resident of Birmingham, Alabama, was fatally shot in the 300 block of 27th Street Southwest. Birmingham police officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at approximately 8:25 p.m. and discovered Gardner unresponsive in the roadway, suffering from a gunshot wound.
