On July 4, 2024, 31-year-old Deundray Cottrell, a doctoral student and dancer from Atlanta, Georgia, was visiting his sister's home in Birmingham, Alabama, to celebrate the Fourth of July. Accompanied by his romantic and business partner, Julian Morris, Cottrell was last seen around 10 p.m. when he went inside to check on his dog during the fireworks.
