On November 4, 2022, at approximately 5:50 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 800 block of 45th Place North. Upon arrival, they discovered 33-year-old Jesse Dewayne Cummings Sr. unresponsive inside a vehicle, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds. His infant son was also present in the vehicle and suffered minor injuries from shattered glass but was otherwise unharmed.
