Jerome Hawkins, a 35-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on September 13, 2020, in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred in the Englewood neighborhood, specifically in the 6100 block of South Throop Street. On that fateful day, Jerome was among a group of individuals gathered on a porch when two assailants emerged from a passing vehicle and opened fire. Jerome was struck in the head and was immediately transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Cook County medical examiner's office later ruled his death a homicide.
The shooting also resulted in injuries to three other individuals. A 17-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to the hip and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. A 60-year-old man was grazed in the back and received treatment at Holy Cross Hospital. Additionally, a 26-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to her hand and was treated at St. Bernard Hospital. All three victims were reported to be in good condition following the incident.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Jerome Hawkins' murder. The Chicago Police Department's Area One detectives are actively investigating the case, but the perpetrators remain at large.
