On July 5, 2024, at approximately 4:40 a.m., 55-year-old Renard "Keith" West was fatally shot in the front yard of a residence in the 1000 block of Cotton Avenue, Birmingham, Alabama. West Precinct officers, responding to a ShotSpotter alert, discovered West unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
