On April 17, 2020, 23-year-old Emilio Aaron Elliott Jr., affectionately known as "EJ," was fatally shot in Birmingham's Southtown community. EJ had left his family's home to deliver money to a female friend in need of assistance with her rent. Upon arrival, he was approached by an assailant who attempted to rob him, leading to an exchange of gunfire. EJ was critically wounded and succumbed to his injuries later that day.
