On June 7, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 400 block of 9th Street West. Upon arrival, they discovered a black SUV that had collided with a nearby home. Inside the vehicle, officers found 35-year-old Demarco Cortez Thomas, also known as "Geremy Demarco Sistrunk," suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced Thomas deceased at the scene.
