Russell Thomas 'Rusty' Andrews, a 62-year-old White male, was found dead on May 14, 2024, at the Alconon Club on Jack Warner Parkway, a place where he had found solace and offered guidance to many. His death was the result of a fatal gunshot wound, an act of violence that shook those who knew him.
Andrews, a graduate of Hillcrest High and an Air Force veteran, was known for his
compassionate nature and his dedication to helping others who were struggling with addiction. Having overcome his own battles with alcohol, he was a pillar of support within the local Alcoholics Anonymous community. Beyond his work in recovery, he was a successful outdoorsman and the owner of Black Label Game Calls. He was a loving father and grandfather, remembered for his willingness to always be there for his family.
The investigation into Andrews' death quickly focused on a person of interest, initially known only as 'J.P.' This individual was described as a white male, approximately 50 years of age. Investigators believed he was no longer in the Tuscaloosa area. Through diligent police work, the suspect was identified as 50-year-old Stacy Lee Drake, a transient with a significant criminal history across multiple states. It was discovered that Drake had been using a false name during the few weeks he had been in Tuscaloosa.
Following the murder, Andrews' vehicle was stolen. Surveillance footage later captured the vehicle near the Arkansas-Oklahoma border, providing a crucial lead for law enforcement. A widespread manhunt ensued, involving the U.S. Marshals Task Force. Drake was eventually apprehended in Morrilton, Arkansas. In addition to the murder of Russell Andrews, Drake was also a suspect in a double homicide in Oklahoma, adding to the gravity of his crimes. An arrest warrant for murder was issued for Drake in connection with Andrews' death.
