Homer F. Hubbard, a police officer with the Tuscaloosa Police Department, died on May 10, 1952, at the age of 45, not 50. He was born on May 7, 1907, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Officer Hubbard was killed in the line of duty while searching for a suspect who had shot another man earlier in the day. He was accompanied by Detective J. Foster King, a former Tuscaloosa County Sheriff, during this search. Both officers were shot and killed by the suspect they were pursuing.
