On May 17, 2024, at approximately 6:38 p.m., Birmingham police responded to a report of a gunshot victim near Coosa Street. While en route, officers were redirected to Greenwood Park, where a red Dodge Charger had crashed into a pond. Upon arrival, officers entered waist-deep water to reach the vehicle, discovering 25-year-old Gabriel Deamontae Bester deceased from gunshot wounds.
