In the heart of Birmingham, Alabama, a beloved and familiar face of the 5 Points South nightlife, Kim Walker, met an untimely and tragic end. At 63 years old, the male bartender was a fixture at the Upsidedown Plaza, where he had spent over two decades serving drinks and engaging with the community.
On November 7, 2019, concern grew among Walker's colleagues when he failed to show up for work. A call for a wellness check led police to his home, where he was discovered deceased. An investigation into his death revealed that just hours before he was found, Walker had been involved in an altercation at his place of employment. While assisting his coworkers in escorting unruly patrons from the bar, he sustained a head wound.
The Birmingham Police Department's homicide investigators diligently gathered information regarding the incident and presented their findings to the Jefferson County District Attorney's office for review. After a thorough assessment of the case, the district attorney's office made the decision not to press criminal charges. It was determined that the actions of the individual involved in the altercation were not willfully and knowingly intended to cause injury to Walker.
