On May 31, 2019, 36-year-old Gewayne Dyrelle Gilbert was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 3100 block of Ensley Avenue, where officers discovered Gilbert unresponsive in a business parking lot, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
