On November 18, 2023, at approximately 1:33 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a ShotSpotter notification near 17th Street Ensley and Avenue I. Upon arrival, they discovered 24-year-old Zion Kewayne Taylor unresponsive in the driver's seat of a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
