On August 8, 2023, at approximately 4:16 a.m., 41-year-old Frederick Douglas Berry Jr. was fatally shot while riding his bicycle in the 7000 block of 1st Avenue South in Birmingham, Alabama. Responding officers found Berry unresponsive in the roadway, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
