On February 22, 2023, 24-year-old African American male Marquis Kantrell Drakes Jr. was fatally shot inside a residence located in the 1400 block of 29th Street Ensley in Birmingham, Alabama. Responding officers from the Birmingham Police Department found him lying on the floor, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
