On November 18, 2023, at approximately 2:55 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a Shot Spotter alert near the intersection of Avenue W and 18th Street Ensley. Upon arrival, they discovered 36-year-old Demetrious Restee Williams lying in the roadway, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced Williams deceased at the scene.
