On March 13, 2023, 40-year-old Tiffany Michele Hernandez was tragically killed in a violent act that also claimed the life of her fiancé, Jason Joseph Brown, also 40. The two were discovered with fatal gunshot wounds inside a home in Birmingham, Alabama's South East Lake neighborhood. Hernandez, a mother and a native of the Birmingham area, was remembered for her big heart, love for animals, and passion for art and music.
The events leading to the discovery of Hernandez and Brown began
to unfold when a man confessed to a Leeds police officer that he had killed two people in Birmingham. This confession led Birmingham officers to the residence where they found the victims. The man who confessed was identified as Daniel “Parker” Watson, 31, of Pell City. Investigators determined that Watson had fatally shot Brown in the face and Hernandez in the back of the head.
Watson's confession also implicated him in a separate double homicide that occurred on the same day in Ragland, Alabama, located in St. Clair County. In that incident, Amber Manning, 37, and Timothy Davidson, 62, were also found shot to death. Following his arrest, Watson was charged in connection with all four deaths.
In September 2025, a Jefferson County jury convicted Daniel 'Parker' Watson of capital murder for the killings of Tiffany Michele Hernandez and Jason Joseph Brown. Prosecutors argued that the murders were intentional and without justification. Watson's defense attorneys claimed he acted in the heat of passion under the influence of drugs, believing the victims had harmed his daughters, a claim for which authorities found no evidence. After a six-day trial, the jury deliberated for about an hour before recommending the death penalty, a sentence which the judge later imposed. Watson still faces charges for the two murders in St. Clair County.
