On April 25, 2023, 19-year-old Janyia Marshae Thompson was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred around 7:55 p.m. near the 4500 block of Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North. A South Precinct officer, already in the vicinity on an unrelated call, heard gunfire and received a ShotSpotter alert directing him to the scene.
