On May 2, 2023, concern began to mount for 59-year-old Monica Lynn Nichols, a Black/African American female, when her family found themselves unable to reach her. This unsettling silence prompted them to request a welfare check at her residence in Birmingham, Alabama. At approximately 1:00 PM, officers from the Birmingham Police Department's South Precinct arrived at the Glenbrook at Oxmoor Valley Apartment Complex on Sydney Boulevard to carry out the request.
