On May 2, 2023, at approximately 1:00 PM, officers from the Birmingham Police Department's South Precinct were dispatched to the Glenbrook at Oxmoor Valley Apartment Complex, located at 2801 Sydney Boulevard, to conduct a welfare check. Family members had expressed concern after being unable to contact 59-year-old Monica Lynn Nichols. Upon entering her apartment, officers found Nichols unresponsive.
