On July 7, 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m., 36-year-old Justina Zenola Wallace was shot during an altercation at an apartment complex in the 3200 block of 17th Avenue North in Birmingham, Alabama. Responding officers found Wallace unresponsive with a gunshot wound; she was transported to UAB Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the following day. The Jefferson County Coroner confirmed that Wallace was pregnant at the time of her death.
