On a tragic summer evening in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of 20-year-old Alajah Patric Fairfax was cut short. The events unfolded on Saturday, July 8, 2023, beginning around 6:05 PM when East Precinct officers were dispatched to the 6800 block of 66th Street South following a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, they discovered 19-year-old Corey Louis Jr.
in the roadway with a gunshot wound.
As investigators were processing the initial scene, another call came in, this time from Woodlawn High School. There, authorities found Alajah Fairfax unresponsive in the passenger seat of a vehicle that matched the description of one that had fled the first scene. She had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Another woman, who was driving the vehicle, was also present.
The investigation revealed a heart-wrenching story of a domestic dispute that had spiraled into a fatal encounter. It is believed that a heated argument between Fairfax and Louis, with whom she shared a child, escalated to the point of violence. Investigators concluded that Louis shot both Fairfax and the other woman before turning the gun on himself. Louis was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to his wounds. The case was determined to be a murder-suicide, leaving their child without either parent.
