In the late hours of a Tuesday evening, the life of Tyesa Shawtae Smith was tragically cut short in a hit-and-run incident in west Birmingham. The 42-year-old woman was crossing the 1500 block of 3rd Avenue West at 11:44 p.m. on July 4, 2023, when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not stop to render aid and fled the scene.
