In the summer of 2023, the life of 22-year-old Quontavius Janard Cooper of Anniston, Alabama, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Friday, June 16th, what began as an ordinary day ended in violence at the intersection of East Battle Street and Haynes Street in Talladega. An altercation occurred, culminating in a shooting that left Cooper fatally wounded.
Another individual was also injured during the incident.
The Talladega Police Department, in conjunction with the Anniston Police Department, launched an investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect in the case. On July 5, 2023, detectives from both departments arrested 23-year-old Daviontae Q'Shawn Malik Snodgress, also of Anniston.
Following his arrest, Snodgress was charged with capital murder in connection with the death of Quontavius Cooper. He was subsequently booked into the Talladega County Jail, where he is being held without bond as he awaits legal proceedings. The investigation has not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting or the nature of the dispute that preceded it. The community continues to await further details as the case progresses through the justice system.
