On June 17, 2023, 22-year-old Quontavious Janard Cooper from Anniston, Alabama, was fatally shot in Talladega. The incident occurred at the intersection of East Battle Street and Haynes Street. Following the shooting, Cooper was found inside a vehicle parked along Highway 21 North near Eastaboga Road, approximately two miles from the crime scene. Another individual in the vehicle also sustained gunshot wounds but survived after receiving medical treatment.
