In the line of duty, 41-year-old Trooper James Buford Robinson, a male, was killed on December 10, 1972, in Talladega, Alabama. A veteran of the Korean War, he had served with the Alabama Department of Public Safety for seven years.
The events that led to Trooper Robinson's death began when Talladega police officers were investigating a report of a man with a rifle on Battle Street. The 24-year-old man opened fire on the officers, wounding one, before fleeing the scene.
He ran for approximately ten blocks and entered a home on Chandler Street.
Trooper Robinson was assisting the local police in the search for the armed man. When the suspect exited the residence on Chandler Street, he shot Trooper Robinson in the throat. The suspect was subsequently shot, wounded, and taken into custody. Trooper Robinson was survived by his wife, son, and brother.
