On June 21, 2024, at approximately 4:58 a.m., 37-year-old Talladega resident Pierre Remayne Whitson was riding his bicycle near the intersection of Stephen J. White Boulevard and North Street East when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene, leaving Whitson fatally injured; he was pronounced dead at the location.
