In the early morning hours of June 21, 2024, the life of 37-year-old Pierre Remayne Whitson was tragically cut short in a hit-and-run incident in his hometown of Talladega, Alabama. A graduate of Talladega High School and a former employee of Walmart, Whitson was known for his warm presence and gentle spirit. He was actively working on personal growth at the Center of Hope, and found joy in spending time with his family and friends.
Around 4:58 a.m., Talladega Police responded to a call
about an injured person at the intersection of Stephen J. White Boulevard and North Street East. Upon arrival, they discovered Whitson lying on the boulevard next to his bicycle. Investigators determined that he had been struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene. Whitson was pronounced dead at the location.
The Talladega Police Department issued a plea to the public for any information regarding the fatal hit-and-run. Their investigation led to the arrest of Michael Haney. He has been charged with failure to render aid with injury in connection with Whitson's death. Haney was subsequently held on a $7,500 bond.
