Chandler Baker, an 18-year-old male from Cheviot, Ohio, was fatally shot on November 25, 2014. He was visiting his mother's apartment at the Dina Terrace Apartments when he stepped outside for a smoke. Shortly after 3:30 a.m., a patrolling officer heard gunshots near the apartments and found Baker wounded behind the building. He was taken to Mercy West Hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.
The investigation revealed that several shell casings were found near the intersection of
Albert and Applegate avenues. Baker managed to run a short distance before collapsing, and a 911 caller reported the incident as a shooting involving her cousin. Despite the tragic circumstances, Baker's mother expressed forgiveness and sorrow, emphasizing the loss of her son and the future he would never see with his unborn child.
Two suspects were arrested in connection with Baker's death. Kendric McCloud, 19, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, while a 17-year-old, later identified as Kevin Mousie, was charged with murder. McCloud claimed he did not pull the trigger, but admitted to being involved in an illegal drug sale during which Baker was shot. Mousie was indicted on multiple charges, including murder and felonious assault. Both suspects faced court proceedings, with McCloud held on a $500,000 bond and Mousie tried as an adult.
