On January 31, 2021, 43-year-old Carlos Antwan Fields was fatally shot in Talladega, Alabama. His death was one of several homicides in the city that year, contributing to a concerning rise in violent crime. In 2020, Talladega reported nine homicides, an increase from four the previous year, and by May 2021, two additional killings had occurred.
