On January 31, 2021, Fields was fatally shot, becoming another victim of the escalating gun violence that had begun to plague the small city. His death was one of several homicides that year, contributing to a significant increase in violent crime compared to previous years and leaving a community searching for answers and yearning for justice.
In the
aftermath of the shooting, the Talladega Police Department launched a homicide investigation. However, the case quickly grew cold, reflecting a troubling trend of unsolved murders in the area.
