On March 19, 2023, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Talladega Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Talladega Downs Apartments, located at 500 Sloan Avenue. Upon arrival, they encountered a large gathering of 50 to 100 individuals in the parking lot and discovered three men on the ground with gunshot wounds. Among them was 22-year-old Montrelle Dontae Johnson, who was transported to Citizens Baptist Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
