In the winter of 2023, the life of 19-year-old Cameron Dontae Rogers was tragically cut short in his hometown of Sylacauga, Alabama. On the evening of Monday, January 16th, the sound of gunfire pierced the air in the vicinity of Kingwood Drive and Drew Court. When officers from the Sylacauga Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered an SUV that had collided with a parked vehicle. Inside, they found Cameron suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate response of medical personnel, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was subsequently taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy.
Cameron, a graduate of Sylacauga High School's class of 2022, was described as a loving son, brother, and friend with a passion for music and entrepreneurship. He had been working at a McDonald's in the nearby town of Childersburg and had aspirations of attending Southern Union State Community College in the fall. His sudden and violent death left his family and community in mourning.
The investigation into Cameron's death was immediately launched by the Sylacauga Police Department, with assistance from the Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force. His death was classified as a homicide, sparking a search for those responsible. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
In an effort to generate leads and bring justice to Cameron's family, Central Alabama CrimeStoppers has offered a reward for information that leads to the identification and arrest of any suspect or suspects involved in the murder. The reward, which was initially set at $1,000, has since been increased to $2,500. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and contact the Sylacauga Police Department or CrimeStoppers. The case remains an active and ongoing investigation.
