On August 21, 2023, 21-year-old Pankaj Rana, a clerk at the Hop In convenience store in Sylacauga, Alabama, tragically lost his life in an accidental shooting. Around 12:45 p.m., a firefighter entered the store and discovered Rana lying behind the counter with a handgun nearby. Upon reviewing surveillance footage, authorities determined that Rana had accidentally shot himself in the head while handling a firearm kept behind the counter for employee protection.
