On a Sunday afternoon in Sylacauga, Alabama, tragedy struck the community. Kevin Deshawn Chatman, a 34-year-old Black/African American man, was found lying in the roadway near Goodwater Highway and Peavy Hill on June 27, 2021. He was suffering from what appeared to be a stab wound to his stomach. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:00 p.m.
Chatman was quickly transported to Coosa Valley Medical Center, where he was rushed into emergency surgery.
Despite the efforts of the medical staff to save his life, he was pronounced dead at around 8:00 p.m. that evening. Following his death, Chatman's body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to be performed.
