In the late afternoon of Thursday, May 20, 2021, chaos erupted in the Buttermilk Hill community of Sylacauga, Alabama. Shaquan Devon Jackson, a 29-year-old Black/African American male, found himself in the line of fire on North Nashville Avenue, between East 3rd and 4th Streets. The sharp crack of gunshots pierced the air, and when the ensuing panic subsided, Jackson was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Good Samaritans and responding officers rushed to his side, initiating CPR in a desperate attempt to save his life.
Paramedics arrived swiftly, transporting Jackson to Coosa Valley Medical Center. There, he underwent emergency surgery to stabilize his critical condition before being airlifted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital for more advanced care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Shaquan Devon Jackson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at UAB. The news of his passing was officially reported on May 24, 2021.
