In Sylacauga, Alabama, a community is left with questions surrounding the death of 40-year-old Jeremy DeWayne Wilson. On the evening of Wednesday, March 6, 2024, police and ambulance services responded to a call at 1599 Commerce Dr., where they found Wilson with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Despite on-site medical treatment and subsequent transport to Coosa Valley Medical Center, he succumbed to his injuries.
Jeremy DeWayne Wilson was an off-duty police officer with the City of
Ohatchee Police Department at the time of his death. His career in law enforcement spanned 15 years, having previously served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Talladega County Sheriff's Department. Wilson, affectionately known as “DJ” to his family and friends, was a graduate of Fayetteville High School and had attended the Northeast Alabama Law Enforcement Academy. His obituary notes his passion for serving and protecting, a path he chose to follow in his father's footsteps.
The Sylacauga Police Department has stated that the shooting was the result of a domestic violence altercation. While the investigation into Wilson's death is ongoing, authorities have reported that all parties involved are cooperating with the inquiry. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
