On October 14, 2023, at approximately 11:53 p.m., Jefferson County deputies responded to a report of a person down in the roadway in the 200 block of 52nd Street in Fairfield, Alabama. Upon arrival, they discovered 31-year-old Ladarius Cortez Jones suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of witnesses who were attending to him, Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.
