On May 23, 2022, 50-year-old David Gibbs Westbrook Jr. was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. At approximately 10:50 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at 135 54th Street North. Upon arrival, they discovered an SUV that had collided with a utility pole. Inside the vehicle, Westbrook was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
