In the early summer of 2019, the life of Marcus Armstead Latimore, a 35-year-old Black male from Birmingham, Alabama, was tragically cut short. On the morning of Thursday, June 6, his body was discovered by a person recreationally driving in the area of Overhill Drive and Third Place. A Jefferson County sheriff's deputy was alerted by motorists, and Birmingham police were called to the scene where Latimore was found off the roadway.
The investigation into his death quickly determined
that he was the victim of a homicide. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office confirmed that Latimore died from a direct gunshot wound to the back, which caused fatal injuries to his lung and a major artery in his chest. His death was officially ruled a homicide, leaving his family and community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss.
Marcus’s identical twin brother, Marshall Latimore, publicly expressed the profound grief his family was experiencing. He described his brother as someone who 'loved easily, treated people with kindness and never hesitated to offer others a helping hand.' He remembered Marcus as charismatic, fiercely loyal, and rarely without a smile, touching many lives in his short time.
Despite the passage of time, the murder of Marcus Armstead Latimore remains an open and active investigation for the Birmingham Police Department. While authorities have indicated that some progress has been made in the case, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced.
