On May 9, 2021, at approximately 11:25 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to multiple ShotSpotter alerts indicating gunfire in the 6700 block of Interlaken Avenue in the Gate City neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 19-year-old Demonteco Usher suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
