On the evening of February 24, 2022, at approximately 7:25 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 600 block of 1st Street North in the Smithfield neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 50-year-old Marcus Antonio Williams seated in the driver's seat of a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound.
