Death by Force

On February 22, 2022, 33-year-old inmate Barry Wardell Gardner was found with stab wounds in an open-style dormitory at William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, Alabama. He was promptly taken to the prison infirmary, where he was pronounced dead. Gardner was serving a 13-year sentence for burglary and theft convictions from a 2014 case in Montgomery County. The Alabama Department of Corrections is investigating his death as a homicide.
