In the late days of January 2021, a tragedy unfolded in Bessemer, Alabama, leading to the death of a 5-week-old infant boy named Kamari Whitt. The male child was brought to a hospital on Wednesday, January 27, with severe head injuries that medical staff described as being consistent with being shaken or struck. Despite the efforts of medical professionals at Children's of Alabama, Kamari succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Saturday of the same week.
The investigation into the circumstances of Kamari's fatal injuries quickly focused on his father, Quinton Artez Arnold, a resident of Hueytown. Initially, Arnold was charged with aggravated child abuse. Following Kamari's death, however, the charges against him were upgraded to capital murder. The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force took Arnold into custody in early February 2021 in connection with the death of his infant son. The incident that led to the fatal injuries occurred in the 300 block of West Lake Circle in Bessemer.
