On March 27, 2022, at approximately 2:20 p.m., Bessemer Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 4000 block of 9th Avenue North. Upon arrival, they discovered 32-year-old Justin DeNorman Groom, a resident of Homewood, Alabama, suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot of Plush Bar and Grill. Emergency medical personnel pronounced Groom deceased at the scene.
