In the spring of 2020, a tragic event unfolded on a Jefferson County roadway that ended the life of Jack Henry Moody, a male resident of Birmingham. On the evening of Thursday, April 16th, Moody was lawfully proceeding through the intersection of Overton Road and Highway 280 on his motorcycle when he was struck by another vehicle.
The force of the impact was significant, causing a fire to erupt.
The driver of the other vehicle did not stop to render aid or contact authorities, instead fleeing the scene of the crash. Emergency services responded and transported Moody to UAB Hospital for treatment of his critical injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
In the aftermath of the collision, the Mountain Brook Police Department initiated an investigation into the fatal hit-and-run. As of late April 2020, authorities were still actively searching for the driver of the vehicle that fled the scene. No suspects had been publicly identified, and no arrests had been made in connection with the death of Jack Henry Moody. The investigation remained ongoing as law enforcement sought to bring closure to a case that cut a life short.
