On August 20, 2019, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Birmingham Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 900 block of 24th Street South, within the Southtown Court housing community. Upon arrival, officers discovered 44-year-old Johnny Wayne Mann lying unresponsive in the rear of an apartment complex, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
